A letter from Alison Moore, Comic Relief US CEO

Happy New Year!

With my first full year as CEO of Comic Relief US now behind me, I can only reflect on how different it was from what I had imagined. Still, despite all of the unexpected challenges we faced, there’s no other job I would have wanted.

I feel deeply grateful to be a part of a community that, in just six years, has positively impacted tens of millions of people — and is currently responding to the compounding crises facing the most vulnerable among us here in the US and around the world.

I know that each of us have been impacted by the pandemic in some way, shape or form. And yet, in the face of such uncertainty, I was so inspired to see our partners and supporters continue to stand with us time, and time again to champion our vision of a just world, free from poverty.

Last Spring, we didn’t know what to expect during our Red Nose Day campaign, but I was amazed by the response from this community. The tidal wave of generosity you helped generate was truly unlike anything I’ve ever seen — and it couldn’t have come at a more urgent time to help children impacted by the ripple effects of the pandemic.

And more recently, throughout the holidays when we launched The Full Plate Project, you stepped up once again to help us respond to the growing hunger crises in communities everywhere and raise critical funds to power innovative, long-term solutions to food insecurity.

All year long, I was heartened to see how The Sandbox — Red Nose Day’s community of monthly givers — grew and grew. So, when we say that every day is Red Nose Day, that’s what we mean: through your support, Red Nose Day is doing everything possible, every single day of the year, to address the needs of children in poverty.

2021 is going to be another challenging year — but as long as there are people facing hunger, poverty, and inequity, Comic Relief US is committed to helping communities recover, rebuild, and become more resilient for the future.

And because we believe that those closest to the challenges of poverty and inequity must be at the forefront of leading sustainable solutions to these problems, we’re also making it a priority to support, listen to, learn from, and lift up more organizations led and staffed by individuals with lived, first-hand experience with these issues.

Although there is so much more work to be done, I have no doubt that our community of generous individuals, courageous frontline organizations, and unwavering corporate partners will rise to the occasion.

Thank you for being part of this powerful community.

Best wishes,

Alison Moore,
CEO Comic Relief US
