The inaugural Comic Relief US Winter Fête was a magical evening celebrating our mission to create a just world, free from poverty.

From the first beats of the Brooklyn United Marching Band to the last notes of Olivia Olson’s beautiful rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the inaugural Comic Relief US Winter Fête was an electric evening filled with joy, laughter, and the power of entertainment to drive positive change.

The program featured stars, including comedians John Oliver, Phoebe Robinson, Alex Edelman, Roy Wood Jr. and musicians Denée Benton and Elaine Kwon, and our founder, Richard Curtis, who reminded the crowd that there is no contradiction between laughter, joy, and compassion — which is the heart of what Comic Relief US has always been about.

This was highlighted by some of our grantee partners, who shared stories about the incredible work that is made is possible by our generous donors. Crystal Austin of the John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health told us about the Family Spirit program, which helps Indigenous people uncover their power, and change their lives, so the next generation can have a brighter future. Carolina Escobar Sarti of Covenant House Guatemala provided insights about their work providing safe spaces and new opportunities that transform young people’s lives. It was a powerful reminder that the work we do is all in service of these organizations, and celebrating that made the evening so magical.

We were also thrilled to honor our friend, Henry Muñoz III, with the Visionary Award for his support of Comic Relief US and his fierce and life-long dedication to the Latino and immigrant communities. Henry’s achievements, including his roles at Funny or Die, TheDream.US, SOMOS US, and The Latino Victory Project, are truly remarkable.

We are known for bringing communities together around shared moments of levity and laughter to create understanding and to empower action, and to have that experience in person, with a room full of people who share our mission, was truly inspiring. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
