Every single child deserves
a safe, stable, and secure
place to call home.

Red Nose Day works with community partners to make sure kids – no matter where they currently call home – get the care and stability they need in times of upheaval.

Donate today and help transform lives.

Every day, millions of children come home from school, drop their bags inside the front door, and never worry if dinner will be on the table, if they will have internet access to do their homework, or if they will get a good night’s sleep.

But that’s not the case for the millions of children around the world experiencing homelessness, including four million here in the U.S. The factors that force young people from their homes are both unpredictable and increasing – violence, financial hardship, persecution, natural disasters, climate events, and lack of affordable housing.

In every corner of the world, children experience homelessness because of circumstances far beyond their control. As climate events become more destructive, violence is more widespread, and income inequality rises, families in tenuous housing face more significant challenges to remaining in their homes. And some young people have no choice but to extract themselves from unsafe living conditions to escape violence, hate, or abuse from guardians.

Eviction and
affordable housing

In the United States, child poverty rates more than doubled last year – from 5% to 12%.

As a result, homelessness is up by 63% from 15 years ago. A higher cost of living, rising rents, and a severe lack of affordable housing options mean families have less income to support themselves and are at an increased risk of eviction.

There is no shortage of crises that can force children out of their homes and into vulnerable situations — from political and economic instability to abuse and domestic violence. At Red Nose Day, we’ve provided support for more than 56,000 children on the move, which includes children who are refugees, migrants, living in foster or alternative care settings, or impacted by natural disasters. The number of children experiencing this disruption today is unprecedented and expected to increase as extreme weather, rising temperatures, and damaged ecosystems threaten the lives of millions of children worldwide.

Children on the move

Supporting young people recovering from traumatic circumstances

No matter why children have to leave, their difficulties don’t end once they’ve settled into safer surroundings. They also need help processing the significant trauma experienced while roaming the streets or residing in temporary housing like homeless shelters or refugee camps.

At Red Nose Day, we understand the extensive, varied, and interconnected factors that force children from their homes. We support programs that provide comprehensive services, including safe accommodations, physical and mental health care, foster care placement or reintegration, and access to education or vocational training. Our grantees meet young people where they are to ensure their needs are met so they can continue to grow into strong pillars in their communities.
