When kids grow up in poverty, it can limit their potential and trap them in cycles of hardship that last generations. At Comic Relief US, we believe in addressing poverty’s impact and its root causes. We focus on children and young people because they are uniquely affected, and with the right support, are more likely to escape poverty as adults, and break these cycles for future generations.
Our Fundraising Approach
Laughter has the power to connect people, build community, and inspire action. That’s why Comic Relief US harnesses the power of entertainment to drive positive social change. We raise awareness and lifesaving funds through engaging content and digital campaigns that support our grantee partners in their critical work to improve the lives of children and young people living in poverty.
Our Grantmaking Approach
Comic Relief US’ grantmaking is rooted in our Theory of Change, which aims to break cycles of intergenerational poverty for children and young people to ensure they have a chance to thrive. We support robust initiatives that tackle the root causes and impacts of poverty with a focus on the safety, health, education, and empowerment of children and young people. As essential building blocks towards overcoming poverty, we support programs across these four strategic areas to help children and young people create lasting change for themselves and future generations.
We invest in community-driven solutions that meet basic needs and enable long-term, sustainable change. We support programs that center the voices and needs of young people most impacted by poverty, with a strong focus on racial and gender equity. We also believe that change starts with and should be led by young people, but that they can’t do it alone. That’s why we also invest in the adults and systems surrounding young people, including their families, communities, and the institutions committed to helping them thrive.
