Learn MoreThis is how Children’s Health Fund Is delivering health care for all kids
We’d like to introduce you to one of our amazing Red Nose Day grantee partners, the Children’s Health Fund. The Children’s Health Fund is delivering high-quality healthcare to kids and families – literally. Their innovative Pediatric Mobile Clinic is a fully functioning pediatrician’s office that travels throughout Miami-Dade county, bringing healthcare to kids and families in the neighborhoods where they live, at no cost to the patients.
The Pediatric Mobile Clinic provides both well-care and sick-care, focusing on whole-person health. That means they’re really wheelin’ and dealin’: They offer immunizations, physicals, and addressing mental and social health, including food or housing insecurity. Dr. Arturo Brito, the president and CEO of the Children’s Health Fund, credits the generous support from Red Nose Day as crucial to the program’s survival – and to raising awareness about health equity.
In the United States, over 20 million children have barriers to accessing health care. That’s almost 30% of kids. A lack of health insurance isn’t the only barrier to healthcare. Affordability, transportation issues, and living in an area with a shortage of provider availability can all be factors. Programs like the Pediatric Mobile Clinic make sure that all kids have the opportunity and access to get the healthcare they need. Watch to see how Children’s Health Fund is on a roll for health equity, and learn how your support is making a positive impact.
Some patients are new arrivals to the United States, like Andrea, whose medications were taken at the border when her family crossed into the United States. Andrea has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Without her medications, her seizures were uncontrolled, and she had to be hospitalized. Andrea’s family didn’t have health insurance or resources for aftercare. Thankfully, the Pediatric Mobile Clinic was able to get Andrea her medications, and refer the family to services with The Epilepsy Foundation. There are many other patients like Andrea, who are medically complex and need immediate access to care. Massimo is another Children’s Health Fund patient. Born in Panama, Massimo has a rare condition called Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. The Pediatric Mobile Clinic was able to get him mobility equipment, help him get into an appropriate school setting, and get all the therapies he needed to thrive. His family credits the Pediatric Mobile Clinic for his progress.
There are many more success stories like Massimo’s and Andrea’s happening every day thanks to the funds raised by Red Nose Day. We’ve positively impacted over 30 million kids and families, and raised over $275 million to help end child poverty. It’s because of the generous support of donors like you that Red Nose Day is able to provide assistance to our grantee partners like Children’s Health Fund.
