It is always hard to find the right words on days like today.

In Uvalde, TX, as in Buffalo, NY, and Laguna Woods, CA, and so many other towns and cities that have experienced violence, the loss that families and communities face is overwhelming. When tragedy strikes, we turn to family and friends. Many of us turn to our children.

As we learn more about what happened in Uvalde, I am reminded of a powerful instinct that I believe exists within all of us -- our innate impulse to protect and nurture our youngest and most vulnerable.

Children are bearing the brunt of so much. We as a country, a society, and a world need to do more to support children so they can be safe, healthy, educated, and empowered. I believe, in these moments, it is critical that we renew our collective commitment to make the world a better, safer place for all children.

So today, I invite you to join me in channeling our grief into action, whether volunteering at a youth program, reaching out to a family in need, or attending a candlelight vigil for the lives we lost yesterday. It is small acts of kindness towards ourselves and our communities that will help us find our way.

Tomorrow is Red Nose Day, a day founded on the tenets of generosity and hope as we seek to create a brighter future for all children. It is also a stark reminder of the challenges children face in the U.S. and around the world and the good we can do together.

In hope for the future,

Alison Moore
