Learn MoreThe sold-out show was a testament to how powerful laughter can be to unite us and catalyze change.
From the sharp wit of John Oliver to side-splitting and thought-provoking commentary from Jon Stewart and an energetic drop-in from Rosie Perez, Stand-Up For LA was both hilarious and inspiring. It brought together the best in comedy to support kids and families affected by the LA wildfires while galvanizing fans and supporters across the country in just a few weeks to raise crucial funds to help underserved communities rebuild and recover.
For many of the performers, getting involved was also deeply personal. “LA is very close to my heart. I have a lot of dear friends there, and I got my first job there. I met my husband there,” said Desi Lydic who delivered an emotional reminder of the long road to recovery for communities. “So having some small role in helping to see what we can do to provide some relief for people going through a difficult time—it’s very meaningful.” Rosie Perez echoed that sentiment: “That’s what we’re here for—to love LA back, give back, and let them know that we’ve got their back.”
One of the most powerful moments of the night came from comedy legend Billy Crystal, who tragically lost his home in the wildfires. In a special pre-recorded message, he shared words of hope and encouragement for those affected and reminded everyone of the resilience that comes from laughter, even in the toughest times.
