Supporting initiatives that champion education is essential to empowering young people and breaking the cycle of poverty, giving kids the tools they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time for kids. Catching up with classmates after summer break, exploring new subjects, and getting new supplies all energize kids for the year ahead. But for many families, the rising cost of school supplies adds financial stress, making it harder to prepare their kids for success. Parents and caregivers facing poverty often find themselves in a difficult position, forced to choose between essential expenses, like rent and groceries, which can leave school supplies and preparing their young learners for the year ahead as less of a priority.

Kids Relief looks to support programs that empower kids with the tools they need to succeed, and organizations like Boys & Girls Club of America, WE-CARE Foundation, and Room to Read all run robust programs that go further than school supplies, to set kids up for academic success throughout the year.

Here’s how they do it:

The Boys & Girls Club of America is the leading nonprofit provider of out-of-school programming in the United States. Native American children from preschool to high school, can visit their local Boys & Girls Club in Indian Country to access vital resources, including books, writing utensils, and DIY S.T.E.A.M. kits.

In Liberia, WE-CARE Foundation spares no effort in supporting young learners. The non-governmental organization aims to create a ‘society of readers and writers’  by distributing culturally relevant books, training teachers, and providing school supplies. The foundation also works closely with pre-school children to prepare them for school and enhance learning through family literacy programs.

In Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, Room to Read offers mentorship and life skills training for girls ages 6-12. The program helps girls succeed in secondary school and negotiate key life decisions while providing them with positive role models, life skills classes, opportunities for mentorship, and family, and community engagement.

These programs are creating opportunities for kids to thrive, making sure they have a solid foundation for a brighter future. Funds raised through Kids Relief support organizations and initiatives that empower young people, foster leadership, expand access to education, and build pathways for economic growth – breaking the cycle of poverty for future generations.
